SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Dorothy DiPaolo of Chicago, owner of Mario's Italian Lemonade Stand, who passed away on January 28, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy DiPaolo was born and raised on the North Side of Chicago; she was an accomplished ice skater who traveled with the Ice Capades for two years; in 1951, she and her husband Mario Sr. opened Mario's General Store; in 1958, she and Mario Sr. co-founded the famous "Mario's Italian Lemonade Stand" which has become an unofficial Chicago institution, slaking summer thirsts for nearly half a century; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy DiPaolo was known as a direct, plain-spoken businesswoman who could be seen everyday at the front counter of Mario's without exception; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy DiPaolo was preceded in death by her husband, Mario DiPaolo Sr.; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy DiPaolo will be remembered by all who knew and loved her, especially her son, Mario (Maria) DiPaolo Jr.; her daughter, Donna (the Honorable Raymond) Jagielski; and her grandchildren, Raeonna, Ray Jr., Mario, Davina and Marco; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Dorothy DiPaolo; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dorothy DiPaolo as an expression of our sympathy.
