HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Louise Copeland Tankson, who passed away on January 16, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Louise Copeland Tankson was born on December 5, 1929 in Baldwyn, Mississippi; her parents were Nathan and Canaro Copeland; she married Edward Tankson on May 10, 1948; and

WHEREAS, Louise Copeland Tankson accepted Christ as her Savior at age 13; she was baptized and became a member of Pleasant Ridge Church; in the 1960s, after an invitation from her friend and neighbor, Marion Blackmon, she became a lifelong member of Keystone Baptist Church, where she devoted herself to bringing family and friends to the Lord; and

WHEREAS, Louise Copeland Tankson attended Smyth Elementary and Medill High School, where she met her future husband, Edward; and

WHEREAS, Louise Copeland Tankson worked in various fields throughout her life; and

WHEREAS, Louise Copeland Tankson was preceded in death by her husband and her three siblings; and

WHEREAS, Louise Copeland Tankson is survived by her daughters, Brenda Elmore (William), Dena Jenks (David), and Vanessa Beene; her sisters, Ruth Harris, Anna Savage, Lounell Cummings, and Elizabeth Moore (Walter); her brothers, Richard Copeland (Shirley) and David Copeland (Cecilia); her grandchildren, Jenna, Justin, Kendra, William, and Joi; her great-grandchildren, Cheyenne, Tiara, Jaden, and Maya Louise; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and

WHEREAS, Louise Copeland Tankson will be remembered by all who knew and loved her as a kind, compassionate, and wise person that drew others to her and whose home was a welcoming haven to all who sought comfort; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Louise Copeland Tankson; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Louise Copeland Tankson as an expression of our sympathy.
