HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to honor the faculty, staff,
4 students, and alumni of Lake Forest Academy as they celebrate
5 the Sesquicentennial Anniversary of the Academy; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Lake Forest Academy is an independent,
7 co-educational high school located in Lake Forest; the Academy
8 was founded by elders of the Presbyterian Church in Chicago;
9 the Academy was chartered by the State of Illinois on February
10 13, 1857, as a college preparatory school for boys; and
 
11     WHEREAS, The Academy was a part of Lind (Lake Forest)
12 Academy, which also comprised Lake Forest College and the Young
13 Ladies Seminary at Ferry Hall; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Classes began in the fall of 1858 and have
15 continued to this day; Lake Forest Academy and Ferry Hall
16 became independent of the University in 1925 and formally
17 merged in 1974; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Lake Forest Academy offers a rigorous college
19 preparatory curriculum within the context of teaching the whole
20 child; Lake Forest Academy is the oldest institution in the
21 community, predating the incorporation of Lake Forest by four

1 years; and
 
2     WHEREAS, The Academy provides an education of the highest
3 caliber to its students in an environment that reflects the
4 four pillars of the school's mission: character, scholarship,
5 citizenship, and responsibility; therefore, be it
 
6     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
8 congratulate the faculty, staff, students, and alumni of Lake
9 Forest Academy and offer our best as they celebrate this
10 special anniversary; and be it further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to the Head of School Dr. John Strudwick as a symbol
13 of our esteem.
