HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Herman E. Ahlfield of Clinton on his retirement from the field of education; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Ahlfield's most recent position was as Superintendent of the Marseilles Elementary School District 150; he walked into the job knowing that the District was in financial peril and accepting the challenge in spite of the difficulties; and

WHEREAS, In his first year he turned a $599,000 deficit into a $274,000 surplus, noticing overcharges from the bus service and overseeing the retirement of several teachers, which in turn helped the district see financial improvement; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Ahlfield also moved his office to the front of the building, giving visitors a sense of an open door policy; he watched as volunteers repainted and cleaned up the building, making the overall appearance more inviting; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Ahlfield also made education of children a priority, not just focusing on the budget issues of the district; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Ahlfield had previously retired as Superintendent in the Cornell school system in 1996; he is a native of West Salem and earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Southern Illinois University; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Herman Ahlfield on a job well done and commend him for doing fine work to help the Marseilles School District continue to educate the children of the community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Herman Ahlfield as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
