HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Herman E. Ahlfield
4 of Clinton on his retirement from the field of education; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Mr. Ahlfield's most recent position was as
6 Superintendent of the Marseilles Elementary School District
7 150; he walked into the job knowing that the District was in
8 financial peril and accepting the challenge in spite of the
9 difficulties; and
 
10     WHEREAS, In his first year he turned a $599,000 deficit
11 into a $274,000 surplus, noticing overcharges from the bus
12 service and overseeing the retirement of several teachers,
13 which in turn helped the district see financial improvement;
14 and
 
15     WHEREAS, Mr. Ahlfield also moved his office to the front of
16 the building, giving visitors a sense of an open door policy;
17 he watched as volunteers repainted and cleaned up the building,
18 making the overall appearance more inviting; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Mr. Ahlfield also made education of children a
20 priority, not just focusing on the budget issues of the
21 district; and

1     WHEREAS, Mr. Ahlfield had previously retired as
2 Superintendent in the Cornell school system in 1996; he is a
3 native of West Salem and earned his Bachelor's and Master's
4 degrees from Southern Illinois University; therefore, be it
 
5     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
7 congratulate Herman Ahlfield on a job well done and commend him
8 for doing fine work to help the Marseilles School District
9 continue to educate the children of the community; and be it
10 further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to Herman Ahlfield as a symbol of our respect and
13 esteem.
