HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of John H. Goodspeed Jr. of Centralia, who passed away on November 12, 2007; and

WHEREAS, He was born on March 22, 1931 in Chicago; his parents were John H. Goodspeed Sr. and Dorothy (Meyer) Goodspeed; he married Ellen Sanders on October 5, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Goodspeed originated the business of factory-built municipal water distribution equipment and water booster pump stations, founding Engineered Fluid (Process) Incorporated in 1964; he was educated in St. Louis and served in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955, at the rank of machinery repairman first class; he served in the Korean War; and he received the Kaskaskia College Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2004; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Goodspeed was an avid golfer and deep-water sports fisherman, winning many tournaments, most notably the Ernest Hemingway Torneo Touristico Internacional in Copa Lake Zaza, Cuba, in 1978, the Walker Cay, Bahamas in 1988 (which was featured on the cover of South Florida Angler's Guide), and the Stuart Light Tackle Tournament in 1990; his family remembers him as a generous person with an excellent taste in wine; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Goodspeed; and his grandson, Brian Goodspeed; and

WHEREAS, John H. Goodspeed Jr. is survived by his wife, Ellen; his son, Bill (Vicki) Goodspeed; his seven grandchildren; his five step-grandchildren; his nine great-grandchildren; his eight step-great-grandchildren; his step-great-great-grandchild; his sisters-in-law, Marie Goodspeed, Marilyn Heath (Nathan), Barbara Hard, Carol Salisbury (Mike), and Doris Thompson (Jim); his brothers-in-law, Jess Peak Jr. (Daisy) and Steven Peak; his nephews, Matt Goodspeed and Paul Goodspeed; his stepsons, Brad Sanders (Terri) and Tony Sanders (Nancy); and many friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of John H. Goodspeed Jr.; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John H. Goodspeed Jr. as a symbol of our sympathy.
