HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to honor the Decatur Family YMCA on the occasion of the association's 130th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, The YMCA was organized in Decatur in March of 1877; since it's founding the Decatur YMCA has kept pace with the needs of a growing community; in 1877, Decatur's population was 8,800, and when it grew to 28,000 in 1907 the first "Y" building was erected; and

WHEREAS, During the past 130 years, the YMCA has been one of Decatur and Macon County's leading non-profit, community service organizations; a progressive, volunteer driven association, the YMCA has been serving the Decatur community through programs based on Christian principles and the YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility; and

WHEREAS, The YMCA works to enhance and provide programs that build strong kids, strong families, and strong communities; through programs such as health and fitness, sports, summer camp, aquatics, childcare, and many more it is easy for anyone to connect to the YMCA; and

WHEREAS, The YMCA is more than just a fitness facility, it exists to inspire the kind of people who care about the world and each other, who have a firm sense of worth, who foster understanding and respect, who accept responsibility for their own lives and are committed to helping improve the lives of others; the YMCA truly provides a sense of belonging, a feeling of trust, a celebration of diversity, and a mission of service; and

WHEREAS, The mission of the YMCA is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the milestone 130th anniversary of the Decatur Family YMCA and congratulate the staff on reaching this important point in history; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Decatur Family YMCA Executive Director Paul Stanzione as a symbol of our respect.
