HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, 2007 is the 50th year of ministry for the First Baptist Church in Mt. Zion; and

WHEREAS, In 1957 a small group of people gathered in a store front and began a new ministry in Mt. Zion; in June of the same year a Mission was organized to form a church; the congregation chose the name First Baptist Church, affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention; and

WHEREAS, With 45 original members land was purchased at 700 West Main Street in Mt. Zion and in November of 1958 the new building was completed and used for worship services for the first time; and

WHEREAS, In 1960 an educational wing was added; in 1962 additional land was purchased west of the church and a two-story educational building was erected on the new parcel; in September of 1973 a new auditorium was completed, and is still the worship center for the congregation; and

WHEREAS, There have been many different pastors and leaders over the last fifty years, but all have shared the vision to share the word of God to the people of Mt. Zion; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the ministry staff and congregation of First Baptist Church in Mt. Zion and wish them continued blessings for the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the ministry staff and congregation of First Baptist Church as a symbol of our respect.
