HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to recognize the citizens of Germantown on receiving the Governor's Home Town Award for 2007; the awards banquet will be held November 27, 2007 at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Springfield; and

WHEREAS, After many years of rotating a Veterans Day celebration from one community to another in Clinton County, the Germantown city council decided to seek some alternative to honor the veterans in a more permanent and special way; and

WHEREAS, It was decided to give medals to all the veterans, or to members of the deceased veterans families; on November 11, 2002, the medals were distributed and proudly worn by veterans and family members; and

WHEREAS, In 2003 the idea of a permanent monument to veterans was discussed by the town mayor, Gerry Kohnen, and a local respected veteran, Jerome Eversgerd; after determining location, cost, and design, the plans for the monument came into being; and

WHEREAS, Thanks to the hard work of volunteers and members of the community, the Village of Germantown now has a memorial to the veterans of the community; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the citizens of the Village of Germantown on receiving the 2007 Governor's Home Town Award; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the citizens of Germantown as a symbol of our respect.
