HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of United States Army Corporal Philip Brodnick of New Lenox, who was killed in action on August 22, 2007 in northern Iraq; and

WHEREAS, Cpl. Philip Brodnick was born on July 6, 1982 in Mokena; his parents are James Brodnick and Marian Stockhausen; and

WHEREAS, Cpl. Philip Brodnick attended St. Albert the Great School and Frankfort Junior High before graduating from Lincoln-Way High School in 2000; he joined the United States Army when he was 18 years old and was sent to Kosovo, serving there until 2002; after his discharge, he moved to Chicago, where he worked odd jobs and applied to be a policeman; and

WHEREAS, In 2005, Cpl. Philip Brodnick reenlisted in the U.S. Army and was placed at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii with the 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Combat Team of the 25th Infantry Division; in 2006, he was sent to Kirkuk, Iraq, where he trained Iraqi soldiers and served as an infantry scout until his untimely death; and

WHEREAS, Cpl. Philip Brodnick enjoyed spending time with family and his dog, Dozer; and

WHEREAS, Cpl. Philip Brodnick is survived by his parents, James Brodnick and Marian Stockhausen; his sisters, Lisa and Kimberly Larson; and his many friends and military comrades; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of United States Army Corporal Philip Brodnick; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Corporal Philip Brodnick and his willingness to serve our country, which led to him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of United States Army Corporal Philip Brodnick as an expression of our sympathy.
