HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Dorothea Hoch of Oak Lawn, who passed away on August 11, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Dorothea Hoch was born on September 8, 1925 in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Dorothea Hoch graduated from the old Longwood Academy in Chicago's Beverly community; and

WHEREAS, Dorothea Hoch's greatest love and most prized possession was her family, which included five children, ten grandchildren, and a great grandchild; and

WHEREAS, Dorothea Hoch was a deeply religious individual who volunteered at St. Gerald's Church; and

WHEREAS, Dorothea Hoch lived a life dedicated to public service and community involvement, which included work as an aide for Congressman Marty Russo, Congressman Bobby Rush, Cook County Commissioner Joan Patricia Murphy, and as a Trustee for Worth Township from 1993 to 1997; and

WHEREAS, Dorothea Hoch was an avowed, dedicated Democrat who remained loyal to her party and its principles until her death, serving her party as President of the Worth Township Regular Democratic Organization, as an active volunteer, and as a delegate to the National Democratic Convention in 1984 and 1988; and

WHEREAS, Dorothea Hoch was a energetic policy advocate for women's rights, disability rights, immigration rights, peace, and other progressive Democratic principles and prided herself as a New Deal Democrat; and

WHEREAS, Dorothea Hoch considered one of her major accomplishments to be her locally renowned chocolate chip cookies; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Dorothea Hoch; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dorothea Hoch as an expression of our sympathy.
