HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Dorothea
4 Hoch of Oak Lawn, who passed away on August 11, 2007; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Dorothea Hoch was born on September 8, 1925 in
6 Chicago; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Dorothea Hoch graduated from the old Longwood
8 Academy in Chicago's Beverly community; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Dorothea Hoch's greatest love and most prized
10 possession was her family, which included five children, ten
11 grandchildren, and a great grandchild; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Dorothea Hoch was a deeply religious individual
13 who volunteered at St. Gerald's Church; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Dorothea Hoch lived a life dedicated to public
15 service and community involvement, which included work as an
16 aide for Congressman Marty Russo, Congressman Bobby Rush, Cook
17 County Commissioner Joan Patricia Murphy, and as a Trustee for
18 Worth Township from 1993 to 1997; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Dorothea Hoch was an avowed, dedicated Democrat

1 who remained loyal to her party and its principles until her
2 death, serving her party as President of the Worth Township
3 Regular Democratic Organization, as an active volunteer, and as
4 a delegate to the National Democratic Convention in 1984 and
5 1988; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Dorothea Hoch was a energetic policy advocate for
7 women's rights, disability rights, immigration rights, peace,
8 and other progressive Democratic principles and prided herself
9 as a New Deal Democrat; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Dorothea Hoch considered one of her major
11 accomplishments to be her locally renowned chocolate chip
12 cookies; therefore, be it
 
13     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
15 mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of
16 Dorothea Hoch; and be it further
 
17     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18 presented to the family of Dorothea Hoch as an expression of
19 our sympathy.
