HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The Hennepin Canal Parkway is a 104.5 mile long
3 State park which spans across Bureau, Henry, Lee, Rock Island,
4 and Whiteside counties; the canal is also a major part of the
5 475-mile long Grand Illinois Trail and part of the American
6 Discovery Trail that goes from coast to coast; it is also
7 listed on the National Register of Historic Places; and
 
8     WHEREAS, The first boat made its way down the Hennepin
9 Canal from the Illinois River to the Mississippi River in
10 November 1907; and
 
11     WHEREAS, A hundred years after its inception, the Hennepin
12 Canal State Park continues to offer fishing, hiking, biking,
13 boating, horseback riding, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing,
14 and other recreational opportunities; and
 
15     WHEREAS, On October 7, 2007, the Friends of the Hennepin
16 Canal will host a public celebration of the canal in honor of
17 its historical and civic significance; therefore, be it
 
18     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
19 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
20 honor the significance of the Hennepin Canal and value its
21 importance to the State of Illinois; and be it further

1     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to Friends of the Hennepin Canal president Gary Wagle
3 as a symbol of our respect for this important landmark.
