HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, On August 23-27, 2007, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., in conjunction with Omega Men in action, will host the 90th Gamma Anniversary Reunion, a legacy expanding 90 years; and

WHEREAS, The Gamma Chapter was the third chapter established by Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.; it was started as a citywide intermediate chapter within the First District (New England Region) in 1916; and

WHEREAS, Its members are comprised of college-educated men from various educational institutions throughout the city of Boston; existing alums of this prestigious organization have had a profound impact of a national scope, as well as on the local Boston metropolitan area; and

WHEREAS, They have had major impact and received widespread recognition across various industries and sectors of our society; Gamma brothers are revered and respected for their leadership, whatever their profession or chosen field of endeavor; and

WHEREAS, As a chapter established for "undergraduate students and recent college graduates", Gamma Chapter has often become a "pipeline of leadership talent" that has migrated into formal membership in the Eta Phi Graduate Chapter; Eta Phi "Brothers" acts as a "directional compass", guiding undergrads to follow established guidelines, policies, and procedures; they act as mentors to aspiring young men; and

WHEREAS, The list goes on; Men of Omega, and the Gamma Chapter of Boston, Massachusetts, are still present and among us today; they have surely left a "Legacy of Leadership" wherever they have been; Gamma Chapter Alumni truly are the pinnacle of Black History in America; and we salute Doug Harris, State Representative David Miller, and Herb Hunter, Gamma Chapter residents of Chicago; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we extend our congratulations to Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and the Omega Men, on the 90th Gamma Anniversary Reunion; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Doug Harris, State Representative David Miller, and Herb Hunter as a symbol of our respect.
