HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the passing of Chicago Police Officer Jose Vazquez on February 12, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Officer Vazquez joined the Chicago Police Department in 1998, serving six of those years as a patrol officer in a Northwest Side area that includes several neighborhoods with serious Hispanic gang problems; he was promoted to special operations section in July of 2004, where he was deployed to gang and drug hot spots across the City of Chicago; he was scheduled to join the elite SWAT unit in two weeks; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Officer Jose Vazquez will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his loving wife, Onelia Vazquez; his parents, Raul and Carmen Vazquez; his siblings Raul, Jaqueline, Nancy, and Joaquin; his nephew Xavier; his many friends and fellow officers of the Chicago Police Department; and the residents of the West Side of Chicago, where he dedicated his career to making them feel safer; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor the memory of Chicago Police Officer Jose Vazquez and his dedication to his family, the Chicago Police Department, and the residents of the City of Chicago; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Officer Jose Vazquez as a symbol of our sympathy.
