HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Local 318 of the International Union of Operating Engineers on the occasion of celebrating its 75th anniversary on June 9, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Local 318 was founded in Harrisburg in 1932; it was moved to Marion in 1996, where it currently resides; and

WHEREAS, Local 318 takes pride in providing operators for the 14 most southern counties in Illinois; it is made up of 900 skilled operators and hundreds of signatory contractors along with shops, city workers, and quarries throughout the area; its unionized market share is above average for the nation at 98 percent; and

WHEREAS, Local 318 values the training of its members; it has a growing apprenticeship facility, providing apprenticeship, entry level training, and journeymen upgrade training to all of its members; and

WHEREAS, Local 318 is a strong community based operation that provides support to area charities; it has established a scholarship fund that assists the dependents of Local 318's members with their college tuition; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Local 318 of the International Union of Operating Engineers on its 75th anniversary and wish it continued success in its future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to a representative of Local 318 as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
