HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company, October 11, 2007; and

WHEREAS, A four-story resort hotel, the Glen Ellyn Hotel, burned to the ground in 1906; because of the destruction, the establishment of the first water system in the community, as well as the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company, came about; and

WHEREAS, On October 11, 1907 the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Department was chartered; Harry Blackburn was appointed Fire Chief by village president Edgar McChesney and 22 men were enrolled to serve as volunteer firefighters; and

WHEREAS, The 60 men and women who today serve on the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company are still there as volunteers, serving their neighbors and friends in Glen Ellyn 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; and

WHEREAS, With over 700 years of experience in firefighting and rescue services, the mission of the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company is to provide timely, professional, and safe emergency service for the preservation of life and property; minimizing fire loss and the patient's best interest are always first priority with the Company; and

WHEREAS, The current Fire Chief is Scott Raffensparger, who has served from 2001 to the present day; he is the Company's first paid Administrator due to the growing demands of the Fire Company; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the men and women who have served the community of Glen Ellyn as a part of the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company and thank them for their dedication to their friends' and neighbors' safety; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Scott Raffensparger, Fire Chief of the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company, as a symbol of our respect.
