HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Captain Kevin Landeck of Wheaton, who was killed in Iraq on February 2, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Kevin Landeck will receive the Purple Heart Medal and the Bronze Star, posthumously, for his bravery in service; and

WHEREAS, Kevin Landeck attended Whittier Elementary, Edison Middle School, and was a 1999 graduate of Wheaton Warrenville South High School, where he was a pole vaulter; he was a 2004 Purdue University Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) graduate; and

WHEREAS, Captain Landeck was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 15th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division out of Fort Drum, New York; and

WHEREAS, He met his wife, Bethany, while attending Purdue; she was is a Purdue graduate, and is a member of the National Guard; and

WHEREAS, Captain Landeck cared deeply for children, and was corresponding with his cousin, Jill Neis, and her fourth grade class at Timber Trails School in Hoffman Estates; and

WHEREAS, Captain Kevin Landeck is survived by his wife, Bethany Landeck; his father, Richard Landeck; his mother, Vicki Landeck; his sister, Jennifer Landeck; his brother-in-law, Kyle Beck; and his cousin, Jill Neis; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Captain Kevin Landeck; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Captain Kevin Landeck and his willingness to serve his country, which led to him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Captain Kevin Landeck as a symbol of our respect and sympathy.
