HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, On Saturday, April 28, 2007, Advocate Christ Medical Center and Hope Children's Hospital, Oak Lawn, will be hosting the Salute 2007 Gala at the Hilton Chicago Hotel at which Mark Slaughter, M.D. will be honored by the Advocate Christ Medical Center and Hope Children's Hospital as a 2007 Outstanding Physician Leader for his exceptional professionalism and contributions in his medical field; and

WHEREAS, Mark S. Slaughter, M.D. graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine and completed his residency in General Surgery at the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University at Northwestern Memorial Hospital; he completed a fellowship in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at the University of Minnesota Fairview University Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Slaughter has held academic positions at the University of Illinois and has had research experience at Indiana University, the University of Minnesota, and the Cardiac Surgery Clinical Research Center, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Slaughter holds many honors, including two designations as "Top Doctor in Chicago" (Thoracic Surgery) in 2002 and 2003; Alley-Sheridan Scholar, Thoracic Surgery Foundation, Understanding the New World of Health Care, and several earned at Northwestern University, including the Medical School Outstanding Resident Teacher award, the Harold L. Method, M.D. Award, the Outstanding Surgical Resident, and the Outstanding Surgical Resident Teacher of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Slaughter is a member of many professional societies including the American College of Chest Physicians (Fellow), the American College of Surgeons (Fellow), the American Society of Transplant Physicians, the Cardiac Surgery Society of Chicago, the Heart Failure Society of America, and the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Slaughter has also served on many government agency advisory committees, including the Health and Human Services Medicare Coverage Advisory Committee; he has served as the Physician Reviewer for Iowa Foundation for Quality Healthcare (Medicare), and serves on several international committees including the International Scientific Committee World Artificial-Organ, Immunology, and Transplantation Society; the Advisory Board for the International Academy of Cardiology; the Scientific Advisory Boards for the 8th World Congress on Heart Failure, the 3rd World Congress on Heart Disease and the 5th International Congress of CAD; Dr. Slaughter has been widely published and has spoken at numerous conferences; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Mark Slaughter, M.D., on being honored by the Advocate Christ Medical Center and Hope Children's Hospital for his exceptional professionalism and contributions in his medical field; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Mark Slaughter, M.D., as a symbol of our respect.
