HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate the
4 administration, faculty, staff, students, and alumni of Loyola
5 University Chicago on the creation of the Center for Public
6 Service and the acquisition of the congressional papers and
7 archives of retired Congressman Henry J. Hyde; and
 
8     WHEREAS, The newly created center will also house the
9 papers of former Congressman Dan Rostenkowski, who donated his
10 archives to the University in 1995; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Anchored by the government archives of these
12 prominent Illinois statesmen, the center, a non-partisan
13 academic unit, will primarily focus on leadership,
14 highlighting the impact that individual men and women can have
15 upon a civil society through their dedication to public
16 service; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Loyola's Center for Public Service will be housed
18 on the third floor of the University's new Information Commons,
19 a 72,000-square-foot, four-level, state-of-the-art library and
20 multi-use educational building that has been designed to
21 achieve the Silver Level Leadership in Environmental
22 Engineering and Design; and

1     WHEREAS, The building, located on Loyola's Lake Shore
2 Campus, overlooks Lake Michigan and is expected to open in
3 early 2008; and
 
4     WHEREAS, The center will concentrate on five main program
5 areas: sponsoring research and scholarship, hosting special
6 exhibits, conferences, a speaker's series, and workshops;
7 therefore, be it
 
8     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
10 congratulate Loyola University Chicago on the creation of the
11 Center for Public Service and the acquisition of the
12 congressional papers and archives of retired Congressman Henry
13 J. Hyde; and be it further
 
14     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to Michael J. Garanzini, S.J., president, Loyola
16 University Chicago, as a symbol of our respect.
