HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to honor Howard Heavner of Valmeyer on his 25th anniversary in the education field; and

WHEREAS, He married Ellen Mary (Diekemper) on July 13, 1979; together they have five children, Ryan Howard Heavner, Anna Marie Heavner, Andrew Joseph Heavner, Joseph Thomas Heavner, and Jonathan Thomas Heavner; and

WHEREAS, He graduated from Western Illinois University in May of 1982 and began his career at Valmeyer Community Unit School District in July of 1982 teaching vocational agriculture; and

WHEREAS, He was named the Outstanding Young Member of the Illinois Association of Vocational Agriculture Teachers 1986-1987; he received an Excellence in Teaching Award in 1989, sponsored by the V.P. Fair and Emerson Electric Company; he has been awarded the State of Illinois Outstanding Vocational Agriculture Teacher numerous times; he received the Governor's Path Award in 2006 and was recognized at the Governor's Inauguration Ceremony in January of 2007; and

WHEREAS, His Parliamentary Procedure Teams won first place in the State of Illinois in 1990, 1992, 1997, 2000, and 2007; they placed second in 1994, 1995, 2001, and 2004; and

WHEREAS, He is currently serving his first term as the Mayor of Valmeyer; and he has served several terms on the State of Illinois Future Farmers of America Board of Directors; and

WHEREAS, He is well respected by his students, who call him "Sir"; he has worked with students and parents and is respected in the community; he has dedicated his life to teaching and his teaching program is considered one of the best in the State; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Howard Heavner on 25 years of dedication to education and to his students, their parents, and the people of Valmeyer; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Howard Heavner as a symbol of our respect.
