HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Norma Jean White on her retirement as a business agent with Teamsters Local 743; and

WHEREAS, Norma Jean White was born in Arkansas and moved to Chicago as a young girl; she attended the Chicago public schools and graduated from DuSable High School and Chicago Teachers College; and

WHEREAS, Norma Jean White was an elementary school teacher in the Chicago public schools; she was an active member of Chicago Teachers Union, Local 1 of the American Federation of Teachers, where she has served in many roles, including building delegate, committee chair, and executive board member; and

WHEREAS, She later joined the staff of Chicago Teachers Union, working as a field representative before she was elected CTU financial secretary, and finally vice president; and

WHEREAS, She served on the executive board of the Illinois Federation of Teachers, the American Federation of Teachers, and the Chicago Federation of Labor; she represented the American Federation of Teachers in international delegations to promote democracy and trade unionism; and

WHEREAS, Norma Jean White is actively involved in her church, St. John Church-Baptist, in Chicago at 48th and Michigan; she is a strong supporter and an active member of the Women's Board of the DuSable Museum of African-American History; she is married to James White; they are the proud parents of five, and the loving grandparents of four; she is in every way a phenomenal woman; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Norma Jean White on her retirement and wish her many years of happiness, good health, and continued success; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Norma Jean White as a symbol of our esteem.
