HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to recognize State Representative Carolyn Krause for her services and hard work on behalf of the people of the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Representative Krause was first elected in 1992 to serve the people of the 56th District; after the 2001 remap of the State, she began representing the 66th District, which includes portions of Arlington Heights, Des Plaines, Elk Grove Village, Mount Prospect, Rolling Meadows, and Schaumburg; and

WHEREAS, Representative Krause served as the Mayor of Mount Prospect from 1977 to 1989; she was a member of the Illinois Criminal Justice Authority from 1985 until 1987 and was appointed by Governor James Thompson to the Local Government Finance Study Commission in 1980; and

WHEREAS, She has received numerous awards during her years of service, including legislator of the year awards from the Illinois Health Care Association, the Illinois Psychological Association, the Illinois Home Care Council, the American Heart Association of Greater Chicago, the Illinois College of Emergency Physicians, the Illinois Maternal & Child Health Coalition, the Northwest Municipal Conference, the Girl Scouts - Illinois Crossroads Council, and the Kenneth Young Association, among many others; she served as co-convenor of the Conference of Women Legislators from 2002 to 2003; and

WHEREAS, Perhaps her greatest achievement has been the creation of KidsCare in 1998, as part of the Children's Health Insurance Program; she is also proud of her work to pass legislation ensuring unrestricted emergency room care to patients without a rigorous authorization process from insurance companies; and

WHEREAS, She has also sponsored legislation improving quality long-term care options for Illinois seniors, worked on the Patient's Bill of Rights to ensure access to quality medical care and the right to privacy, and the development of legislation to move forward on energy efficiency, conservation efforts, and local government protections, among many others; and

WHEREAS, Her recent committee assignments included the Electric Utility Oversight Committee, where she served as Minority Spokesperson, the Health Care Availability Access Committee, the Environment and Energy Committee, the Telecommunications Committee, and the Mass Transit Committee; and

WHEREAS, Representative Krause was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; she received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and earned her Juris Doctor with Honors from the Illinois Institute of Technology-Kent College of Law in 1966; she and her husband, David, were partners in the law firm of Krause & Krause in Mount Prospect; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Representative Carolyn Krause on her retirement from the Illinois House of Representatives and wish her the best in her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to State Representative Carolyn Krause as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
