HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Lorraine Fontana, who passed away on September 8, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Lorraine Fontana was born on June 25, 1948 in Chicago Heights; she graduated from Bloom Township High School in 1966; she then earned her associate's degree in computer science from Prairie State College and her bachelor's degree in information technology from Governors State University; and

WHEREAS, Lorraine Fontana was employed with AT&T for 30 years; starting her career as an operator in Harvey, she concluded her career as a technical specialist in the billing and network operations department, where she was well regarded for her accomplishments and expertise; and

WHEREAS, Lorraine Fontana also worked as a tax preparer, performing pro bono work as well as compensatory services; she also taught information technology classes as an adjunct professor at South Suburban College and Prairie State College; and

WHEREAS, Lorraine Fontana was an active member in her community; she served in a number of positions at her church, the Infant Jesus of Prague of Flossmoor; at her church, she served as a Eucharistic Minister at church services and to the sick and domiciled, prepared meals for the homeless, and delivered and donated clothing and food to the needy, among many other activities; she participated as a volunteer in community events such as Flossmoor Fest, the Bloom Township Fund Raisers and Reunions, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Chicago Heights VFW, and local events to raise money for cancer research; she also participated in numerous legislative and local village political campaigns and served as an election judge in her precinct in Flossmoor; and

WHEREAS, Lorraine Fontana was a committed member of the Hooved Animal Foundation, an organization that cares for the welfare of horses; she actively worked to give horses good homes at children's ranches and various responsible owners; and

WHEREAS, Lorraine Fontana was a member of the South Suburban Computer Society and the Telephone Pioneers of America; she also served as a fundraiser for the White Sox Charities; and

WHEREAS, Lorraine Fontana's love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared her to her family members, friends, and all who knew her, and enabled her to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Lorraine Fontana; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lorraine Fontana as an expression of our sympathy.
