1 HOUSE RESOLUTION

2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Nichyria Byrd on
4 the occasion of being nominated for ESPN's first-ever Earn Your
5 Stripes Youth Achievement Award; and

6     WHEREAS, Nichyria Byrd, from Chicago's Southside, is one of
7 5 nominees from across the county and the only nominee from the
8 Midwest; she began running two years ago at the age of 9
9 through Girls on the Run - Chicago, a youth development program
10 that trains young girls, ages 8-12, to run their first 5K race
11 while also developing self-esteem, teaching life skills, and
12 promoting healthy lifestyles; and

13     WHEREAS, Nichyria Byrd had not participated in organized
14 sports before joining Girls on the Run - Chicago at Ariel
15 Community Academy, but is now more than just a student athlete;
16 as a veteran of the program, she now offers advice and
17 encouragement to younger runners and teaches other children in
18 her classes valuable lessons about dealing with bullying and
19 gossip; and

20     WHEREAS, Nichyria Byrd serves as a model of hard work,
21 integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of
22 Illinois; therefore, be it

1     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
3 congratulate Nichyria Byrd on the occasion of being nominated
4 the ESPN Earn Your Stripes Youth Achievement Award and wish her
5 continued success and happiness in the future; and be it
6 further

7     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8 presented to Nichyria Byrd as a symbol of our esteem and
9 respect.
