HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, A group of 71 Catholic men and their families in
3 the Chicago southwest suburb of Tinley Park realized that there
4 was a need to serve their church, their families, and their
5 community in a way that was consistent with the Knights of
6 Columbus principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and
7 Patriotism; and
 
8     WHEREAS, In response to this need, the Father C.C. Boyle
9 Council No. 4698 was formed and chartered on November 30, 1958
10 at the urging of Father T.D. O'Connell, then pastor of St.
11 George Church in Tinley Park; and
 
12     WHEREAS, The leaders, members, and families of the Knights
13 of Columbus Father C.C. Boyle Council have contributed their
14 time and talents following the true tradition of Columbianism -
15 Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism; and
 
16     WHEREAS, In November of 1970, the first fundraising efforts
17 were initiated by the Knights of Columbus Father C.C. Boyle
18 Council toward assisting those individuals with special needs;
19 these efforts, now better known as the Tootsie Roll Drive, have
20 been adopted in many places throughout the nation, raising
21 countless millions of dollars; and

1     WHEREAS, The Knights of Columbus Father C.C. Boyle Council
2 continues to meet at St. George Church in Tinley Park to this
3 day; the Council continues to serve the parish families of St.
4 George in Tinley Park, St. Damien in Oak Forest, St. Elizabeth
5 Seton in Orland Hills, St. Emeric in Country Club Hills, St.
6 Julie Billiart in Tinley Park, St. Gerald Majella in Markham,
7 and St. Stephen in Tinley Park; and
 
8     WHEREAS, The Council membership of the Knights of Columbus
9 Father C.C. Boyle Council, as well as their families and
10 friends, will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Council on
11 November 30, 2008; therefore, be it
 
12     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
14 congratulate the members of the Knights of Columbus Father C.C.
15 Boyle Council 4698 on the occasion of the Council's 50th
16 anniversary and wish them continued success and happiness in
17 the future; and be it further
 
18     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19 presented to the Knights of Columbus Father C.C. Boyle Council
20 4698 as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
