HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the trustees and employees of the Galena Public Library on the occasion of its 100th anniversary on July 4, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Galena's library was originally located on the second floor of the Galena Post Office building on Commerce Street in Galena; after determining that the library required more space, the library Board of Directors began the search for a new library in 1906; after an exhaustive search for a new location, the Board of Directors narrowed the choice to three locations; the board decided on its current location on Bench Street in Galena; and

WHEREAS, With a new location determined, the cornerstone of the Galena Public Library was put in place on April 27, 1907; after construction was completed, the library was formally dedicated on July 4, 1908; and

WHEREAS, The Galena Public Library has been a cornerstone of the rich history of the City of Galena and the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the trustees and employees of the Galena Public Library on the occasion of its 100th anniversary and wish continued success for the library in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to a representative of the Galena Public Library as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
