HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Mark Lamping on the
4 occasion of his retirement as President of the St. Louis
5 Cardinals on April 2, 2008; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Mark Lamping earned his Bachelor of Science degree
7 in accounting from Rockhurst University in Kansas City,
8 Missouri and his master's degree in business administration
9 from Saint Louis University; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Mark Lamping served as Anheuser-Busch's group
11 director of sports marketing for five years before being
12 appointed president of the St. Louis Cardinals on September 1,
13 1994; as president, he has managed the club's business and
14 facility operations, including the renovation of the old Busch
15 Stadium and revitalization of the Cardinals franchise in the
16 mid-1990s, and the development and funding of the new Busch
17 Stadium, which opened in April of 2006; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Mark Lamping led the St. Louis Cardinals during
19 the club's 1996, 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2005 Central Division
20 titles, their 2004 National League Championship, and the team's
21 10th World Championship in 2006; under his leadership, the
22 Cardinals were honored by the United Sports Fans of America in

1 1999 and in 2003 as Major League Baseball's Fan Friendly Team
2 in honor of their superior efforts to make the ballpark
3 experience more enjoyable for the fans; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Mark Lamping is a member of many charitable and
5 civic organizations; his activities include board memberships
6 with the St. Louis Sports Commission, Saint Louis University
7 Business School, Habitat for Humanity, the St. Louis Cardinals
8 Community Fund, and Wings of Hope, among others; he also served
9 as the chairperson of the Make-A-Wish Foundation Golf Classic,
10 Old Newsboys Day, St. Louis Archdiocese Catholic Charities
11 Christmas Appeal, and Pope John Paul II's 1999 visit to St.
12 Louis, Missouri; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Mark Lamping has been the recipient of many honors
14 and awards in recognition of his charitable efforts; in 1998,
15 he was honored as Man of the Year by the St. Louis chapter of
16 Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Resources and was the recipient of
17 the James O'Flynn Award from St. Patrick's Center in
18 recognition of his work with St. Louis' homeless; he was the
19 recipient of the Catholic Youth Council 2000 Community
20 Achievement Award and the 2001 Marianist Youth Medal for his
21 support of youth in the St. Louis area; he was the recipient of
22 the 2001 Legacy Award from Big Brothers and Big Sisters of St.
23 Louis and the recipient of the Gateway Leadership Award from
24 the International Leadership Network in 2006; he was also an

1 inductee into the Vianney High School Hall of Fame and was
2 named the 2000 Alumnus of the Year for outstanding achievement
3 by Rockhurst University; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Mark Lamping and his wife, Cheryl, have three
5 children, Brian, Lauren, and Timothy; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Following his retirement, Mark Lamping will now
7 serve as CEO of the New Meadowlands Stadium Company, a joint
8 venture between the NFL's New York Giants and New York Jets to
9 build to build a new world-class stadium for both teams and for
10 major sports and entertainments events; he will be responsible
11 for the overall operation of the new stadium; therefore, be it
 
12     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
14 congratulate Mark Lamping on the occasion of his retirement and
15 wish him continued success and happiness in his future
16 endeavors; and be it further
 
17     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18 presented to Mark Lamping as a symbol of our esteem and
19 respect.
