HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the State of Illinois wish to honor the St. Joseph Lady Wildcats on winning the Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association Class S 2007 State basketball championship; and

WHEREAS, The Wildcats overcame a nine-point second-half deficit to stun the Bartelso Lady Braves 41 to 39 to win the championship at Rend Lake College in Ina on Saturday, January 27, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Marissa Runyon led all scorers with a game-high 15 points, her average for the tournament; Samantha Herman added 14 points, including 12 from behind the arc and averaged 10 points per game during St. Joseph's three-game title run; Jennifer Luna tacked on 10 points, averaging 9 points per game and tied Herman for the team lead in rebounds with three; and Carolyn Joseph collected a team-high six assists and two steals as well as two rebounds; and

WHEREAS, St. Joseph finished the season with a 24 and 2 overall record; and

WHEREAS, The St. Joseph Lady Wildcats consist of Kenna Benton, Hannah Harrison, Rachel Zwilling, Rachel Mosby, Elizabeth Zuber, Jennifer Luna, Elizabeth Kuenstler, Marissa Runyon, Carolyn Joseph, Samantha Herman, Hillary Steber, Kenzie Zwilling, Samantha Blakney, Emily Hustad, head coach Mark Herman, assistant coach Steve Runyon, and assistant coach Ron Steber Jr.; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the St. Joseph Lady Wildcats on winning the Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association Class S 2007 State basketball championship; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the St. Joseph Lady Wildcats as an expression of our esteem.
