SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
20 ILCS 2705/2705-210   was 20 ILCS 2705/49.15

    Amends the Department of Transportation Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Authorizes the Department of Transportation to accept federal transportation funds for the purposes of traffic control and accident prevention. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Department of Transportation Law of the
5 Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is amended by changing
6 Section 2705-210 as follows:
 
7     (20 ILCS 2705/2705-210)  (was 20 ILCS 2705/49.15)
8     Sec. 2705-210. Traffic control and prevention of
9 accidents.
10     (a) The Department has the power to develop, consolidate,
11 and coordinate effective programs and activities for the
12 advancement of driver education, for the facilitation of the
13 movement of motor vehicle traffic, and for the protection and
14 conservation of life and property on the streets and highways
15 of this State and to advise, recommend, and consult with the
16 several departments, divisions, boards, commissions, and other
17 agencies of this State in regard to those programs and
18 activities. The Department has the power to aid and assist the
19 counties, cities, towns, and other political subdivisions of
20 this State in the control of traffic and the prevention of
21 traffic accidents. That aid and assistance to counties, cities,
22 towns, and other political subdivisions of this State shall
23 include assistance with regard to planning, traffic flow, light

1 synchronizing, preferential lanes for carpools, and carpool
2 parking allocations.
3     (b) The Department may accept federal transportation funds
4 for use in accordance with this Section.

6     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
7 becoming law.
