SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Doris Jean Osborne-Mizelle, who passed away on September 9, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Doris Osborne-Mizelle was born in Jackson, Tennessee to Otto and Katherine Crayton on June 29, 1937; she was educated in Jackson public schools, where she excelled in her studies; she attended the Tabernacle of David the House of Israel Church, where her father was one of the ministers; and

WHEREAS, Doris Osborne-Mizelle relocated to Chicago in her late teens; she joined and was baptized at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church; she later joined Trinity United Church of Christ; and

WHEREAS, As she raised her children, Doris Osborne-Mizelle began attending Marion Business College; she then decided to follow her passion, caring for people; she became a certified nurse's assistant and worked in various health occupations, which included working for a pediatrician and a gynecologist; she loved caring for the elderly and had many private duty clients; and

WHEREAS, In August 2017, Doris Osborne-Mizelle married the love of her life, Larry Mizelle; they enjoyed traveling and attending street festivals, the auto show, and church together; and

WHEREAS, Doris Osborne-Mizelle was an excellent cook; she enjoyed shopping, and her closets were filled with sequined dresses, suits, shoes, and jewelry bought at various stores, especially her favorite, Carson Pirie Scott; and

WHEREAS, Doris Osborne-Mizelle was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; her brothers, Otto and John; her sister, Helen; and her parents; and

WHEREAS, Doris Osborne-Mizelle is survived by her children, LaChetis (Terrance) Brown, Linda Allison, Anthony Osborne, Rhonda (John) Travis, and Valerie (Ray) Rice; her sister, Lavern Lanier; her sisters-in-law, Magnolia and Mary Crayton; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Doris Jean Osborne-Mizelle and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Doris Osborne-Mizelle as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
