HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the Multicultural Leadership Program on the occasion of its tenth anniversary on February 28, 2019; and

WHEREAS, The Multicultural Leadership Program is an intense, professional development curriculum that provides a framework for participants to learn and to practice becoming better leaders; the program cultivates emerging leaders who understand the power of diversity, leaders who want to work with people of all ages, cultures, and walks of life to strengthen and support their communities; and

WHEREAS, Based on key servant-leadership principles, the Multicultural Leadership Program is designed to help each participant find the leader within by answering three questions about themselves and testing those answers throughout the curriculum experiences; and

WHEREAS, The Multicultural Leadership Program provides a safe environment where values, assumptions, and perspectives can be tested; mistakes can be made, and limits can be pushed; participants learn to recover from mistakes and succeed despite challenges; and

WHEREAS, The Multicultural Leadership Program is committed to preparing skilled, informed individuals for leadership positions in public, private, educational, political, and non-profit sectors; the program strives to foster leadership diversity through community welfare and participation; the program provides low-cost solutions to community needs in the form of community projects for local organizations; and

WHEREAS, The Multicultural Leadership Program's class includes 26 diverse individuals who meet from the end of July to the following March, and the curriculum focuses on professional leadership development, community involvement, and mentoring and networking, along with simulation exercises that help participants experience life through the lens of others; employees who complete the program develop a greater diversity of thought and core leadership skills; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Multicultural Leadership Program on the occasion of its tenth anniversary, and we wish them many more successful years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Multicultural Leadership Program as an expression of our esteem and respect.
