HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate the Marmion Academy
4hockey team, the Cadets, on winning the Varsity White division
5for the 2018 Illinois State High School Hockey Championship;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, The Cadets defeated the New Trier Gray in overtime
8March 16, 2018; and
 
9    WHEREAS, The Marmion Academy hockey program was born out of
10a chance encounter between the program's founder, Dan Heckle,
11and a young man at an ice rink in 2013-14 wearing a Marmion
12shirt, when Dan learned that Marmion did not have their own
13hockey team at that time; and
 
14    WHEREAS, A couple of years later, when Dan Heckle began
15working at Marmion Academy, he learned that dozens of highly
16talented hockey players have graduated or attended Marmion
17through the years; he garnered support from the Head of School,
18Mr. Tinerella, and worked with alumni from the Chicago Catholic
19Hockey League; he received an outpouring of support from
20leaders of the Chicago area hockey community; and
 
21    WHEREAS, With the support of the monks and the

1administration at Marmion Academy, Dan Heckle and his team
2obtained a charter for Marmion through the Amateur Hockey
3Association of Illinois; along with then-coach Chris Imes, a
41994 U.S. Olympian, and two hockey players and Marmion alumni,
5Nick and Jake Leon, the Cadets had a staff to lead the way,
6with Imes coaching for two seasons; and
 
7    WHEREAS, For the 2016 season, the program joined the CCHL
8(Chicago Catholic Hockey League) and today play against some of
9the state's toughest competition; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Two words summarize how Marmion Academy's hockey
11program has ascended to heights not seemingly possible to those
12on the outside - "The Brotherhood"; and
 
13    WHEREAS, While four teammates are actual siblings, wearing
14the Cadets name on the back of their hockey sweaters bolstered
15school pride to another level for all of the young men; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Under first year coach Michael Perillo, the team
17finished as state champions with a final record of 26 wins, 3
18losses, and one tie; and
 
19    WHEREAS, The Cadets chemistry, trust, and ability to remain
20level-headed was undeniably a factor in their 1 to 1 overtime
21state championship game against New Trier, ultimately winning 2

1to 1 over one of the state's strongest hockey programs; and
 
2    WHEREAS, The Cadets are Mark Picchietti, Andrew Galle,
3Sammy Greco, Matthew Sitar, Logan Gayton, Cole Hostasa,
4Nicholas Greco, Dylan Foster, Gino Viscomi, Aaron Munson, Sean
5Gillian, Jacob Carlson, Collin Ayres, Sean Galle, Henry Walton,
6Tom Nowicki, Zachary Dietz, and Andrew Madej; the assistant
7coaches are Greg Sauers, Jared Weaver, and Graham Mosey; the
8strength coach is Joe Koup; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
10HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
11congratulate the Marmion Academy hockey team, the Cadets, on
12winning the Varsity White division for the 2018 Illinois State
13High School Hockey Championship, and we recognize Cadets, both
14past and present, for their outstanding achievements; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
17presented to the Cadets and their coaches as a symbol of our
18respect and esteem.
