SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of Ernest J. Mehlan of Mount
4 Prospect on Thursday, April 20, 2006; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born June 28, 1919, in Chicago; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Mr. Mehlan retired in 1982 from the Chicago
7 Sun-Times advertising department after 44 years of service; he
8 won the Marshall Field Award in 1976; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Mr. Mehlan served the community of Mt. Prospect
10 for 38 years, where he was a member and past president of the
11 Senior Advisory Council, the senior golf league at the Mount
12 Prospect Golf Club, and the Senior Men's Club; he also served
13 for many years on the District 214 Senior Celebration
14 Committee; he was the senior advisor to the Mount Prospect
15 Jaycees and was named an honorary lifetime member of the
16 Jaycees; and
 
17     WHEREAS, He was a two-time Mount Prospect Elderhonor award
18 winner and a Mount Prospect Shining Star award winner; he also
19 received the Cook County Sheriffs Senior Medal of Honor; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Mr. Mehlan was an active member of St. Mark
21 Lutheran Church for 38 years; and
 
22     WHEREAS, His wife, Dorothy K. Mehlan (nee Straub), preceded
23 him in death; and
 
24     WHEREAS, The passing of Ernest J. Mehlan has been deeply
25 felt by many, especially his daughter, Janice (William) Scott;
26 his grandchildren, Rachel, Jennifer, and Johanna; and his
27 siblings, Christine Wagner, Herbert (Lee) Mehlan, and Deloris
28 Bose; therefore, be it

1     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
2 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
3 Ernest J. Mehlan, and we extend our sincere condolences to his
4 family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
5 further
 
6     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
8 sympathy.
