SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of Virgil Kassing, village
4 clerk of Caseyville, on Wednesday, March 15, 2006; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born in January of 1940 and had a memorable
6 sense of humor and liked to tell stories; he liked helping
7 people and cared about the kids of Unit 10; and
 
8     WHEREAS, He retired from the Collinsville School District
9 after decades as a high school teacher and counselor then
10 served eight years on the school board, four as president; he
11 stepped down in 2003 and had been Caseyville's village clerk
12 ever since; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Mr. Kassing was a founder of the Unit 10 Credit
14 Union, which operated out of a 600-square-foot space in his
15 home for years before moving into its building in 2000; he
16 served on the St. Clair County Board and was a former volunteer
17 firefighter; and
 
18     WHEREAS,In addition to working at the credit union, Mr.
19 Kassing was active in Faith in Action, an interfaith initiative
20 in which volunteers help the elderly and those with long-term
21 health-care needs with such things as meals, grocery shopping,
22 and rides to the doctor; he took communion to nursing homes and
23 was part of many local organizations; he loved to play Texas
24 Hold 'Em poker; and
 
25     WHEREAS, The passing of Virgil Kassing has been deeply felt
26 by many, especially his wife, Frances Kassing; his sons, Steven
27 and Marc Kassing; his daughter, Leslee Kassing; and his twin
28 brother and four sisters; therefore, be it
 
29     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL

1 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
2 Virgil Kassing, and we extend our sincere condolences to his
3 family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
4 further
 
5     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
7 sympathy.
