SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of Hosea Auburn Thomas of West Frankfort on August 5, 2005; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Thomas was born December 23, 1920, in Hamilton County, to William C. and Etta (Engram) Thomas; he married Jylonda Irene Murphy on May 29, 1945; and

WHEREAS, He was a World War II veteran, serving as a technical sergeant in the U.S. Army with Merrill's Marauders in Burma; he was a lifetime coal miner, retiring in 1983 from the Old Ben Coal Company; and he was a member of Caldwell Baptist Church in Benton; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; his four sisters and four brothers; his son-in-law, Leonard Trotter; and his great-grandchild, Kody Morhet; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Hosea Thomas is felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife of 60 years, Jylonda; his children, Terry Trotter, Hosea Thomas Jr. and wife Marilyn, Ervin Thomas and wife Paula, Mike Thomas and wife Lisa, Janet Wilson and husband Chris, Stacy Thomas and wife Judy, and Tracy Thomas and wife Lori; his 23 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Anna Melvin and Hazel Gunter; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Hosea Thomas and extend our sincerest condolences to his family, friends, and community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
