SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with sadness of the death of Bob Absher of Carrier
4 Mills on July 9, 2005; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Mr. Absher was born in Stonefort on January 10,
6 1925, to the late Taylor and Effie Blackman Absher; and
 
7     WHEREAS, He married the former Ruth Dempsey on October 16,
8 1942; and
 
9     WHEREAS, He was a Christian and a longtime member of First
10 United Methodist Church in Carrier Mills, where he served as
11 chairman of the church council for many years; he was a Purple
12 Heart Army veteran of World War II and a member of the IOOF
13 Lodge in Harrisburg and the Comfort Rebekah Lodge 48 in Carrier
14 Mills; he was also a member of the UMWA and retired in 1987
15 from the Peabody Eagle 2 mine; and
 
16     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents, his
17 sisters, Myrtle Bynum and Rachel Hill, and his brothers, Royal
18 and Bill Absher; and
 
19     WHEREAS, The passing of Bob Absher is felt by all who knew
20 and loved him, especially his wife of 62 years, Ruth; his sons,
21 Mike and Linda Absher and Greg and Pam Absher; his
22 grandchildren, Mike Absher Jr., Michelle Calvert, Mark Absher,
23 and Geoffrey and Barrett Absher; his great-grandchildren,
24 Megan and Natassia Calvert and Tyler and Madison Absher; and
25 his nieces who were raised as his sisters, Joyce and Chuck
26 Reeder and Carolyn and Carl Ross; therefore, be it
 
27     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
28 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
29 Bob Absher and extend our sincerest condolences to his family;

2     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
4 sympathy.
