SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of Ronald Lee Smith of
4 Springfield on Thursday, July 21, 2005; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Mr. Smith was born on November 25, 1938, in
6 Centralia to Raymond Smith and Gloria Nash; he attended
7 Centralia public schools and continued his education at Lincoln
8 Land Junior College and the University of Illinois at
9 Springfield; he married Margo Hatcher; and
 
10     WHEREAS, He moved to Springfield in 1972 and worked for
11 Roland Burris as his executive assistant at the State of
12 Illinois Comptroller's Office and Attorney General's Office
13 for 25 years; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Mr. Smith was a member of Union Baptist Church and
15 served on the Board of Trustees and in the Men's Choir; he also
16 served as a volunteer Red Coat for Memorial Medical Center; he
17 was a member of the Springfield Lions Club, Promise Keepers,
18 American Legion Post 809, and various other organizations; he
19 was a veteran of the U.S. Army; and
 
20     WHEREAS, The passing of Ronald Lee Smith has been deeply
21 felt by many, especially his wife, Margo; his children, Ronald
22 Jr. and Keyla; his grandsons, DeAntae Williams and Jamell
23 Smith; his cousins, Joanne Nixon, Claduette Moore, and Derek
24 (Rosemary) Nash; and his many other relatives and friends;
25 therefore, be it
 
26     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
27 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
28 Ronald Lee Smith, and we extend our sincere condolences to his
29 family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
30 further

1     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
3 sympathy.
