SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of Ida Jones Martin of Chicago on June 16, 2005; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Martin was born in St. Joseph, Louisiana, to Walter and Polly Reed on August 26, 1910, and educated in the Louisiana Public Schools; and

WHEREAS, She married Reverend R.J. Jones in St. Joseph, Louisiana, on February 11, 1928; in 1942, they moved to Pine Bluff, Arkansas, where she began working at Pine Bluff Arsenal; Rev. Jones preceded her in death in 1978; she married Reverend Elijah Martin in June of 1988 and he preceded her in death in 1998; and

WHEREAS, She was a member of the Sisters of Charity and formerly a member of New Zion M.B. Church; she joined Gospel Temple Baptist Church where she served as a mother of the church and a supporter of all church auxiliaries; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Ida Jones Martin is felt by all who knew and loved her, especially her daughters, Reanetta Hunt, Delois Lee, and Linda Jones (Jared) Kindle; her son, Gregory Lee (Carolyn) Jones; her grandchildren, Christopher Craft, Daphne Anita Lancaster, Angela Levita Arnold, and Jackie Lee (Demone) Evans; and a host of great-grandchildren, cousins, nephews, nieces, and other relatives and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Ida Jones Martin and extend our sincerest condolences to her family, friends, and community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to her family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
