SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of Rev. Stanley T. Wisniewski of Chicago on January 27, 2005; and

WHEREAS, He was born on the Southeast Side of Chicago in 1933; he attended St. Viator grammar school and Loyola Academy, where he graduated in 1951; he then entered the Jesuit novitiate in Milford, Ohio; and

WHEREAS, During his studies to become a priest, Father Wisniewski also attended Loyola University-Chicago, where he received a degree in Latin in 1956 and a master's degree in English and philosophy in 1962; and

WHEREAS, From 1958 to 1961, he taught English at St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati; he then went on to complete his studies in theology and philosophy at West Baden College in West Baden Springs, Indiana, where he was ordained a priest in June 1964; and

WHEREAS, Following his ordination, Father Wisniewski went on to teach at St. Ignatius College Prep in Chicago in 1966; he spent the next 22 years there; and

WHEREAS, He loved his students and he really tried to get inside of their minds and hearts to see what motivated them; he knew that grades were not necessarily the most important thing in life, so he could put all of that into perspective; he also had an unassuming sense of humor that brightened his classrooms; and

WHEREAS, In line with his work as a life-long educator, he was an editor for "Correct Writing", a textbook used nationally in Jesuit schools; and

WHEREAS, He spent the late 1980s and 1990s at churches in Nevada; in 1988, he was assigned to Reno, where he was associate pastor of Our Lady of the Snows Parish until 1991; for a year after that, he was associate pastor of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Las Vegas; in 1992, he moved to Fallon, Nevada, where he was pastor at St. Patrick's Parish; in 1999, he returned to Chicago to serve as rector of St. Stephen's Shrine, a small parish on the Southwest Side; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Rev. Stanley T. Wisniewski is felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his sister, Susan Zurek, and his brother, Thomas; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Rev. Stanley T. Wisniewski and we extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
