SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of Claudia Washington Thompson, a resident of Oak Park for more than 23 years, on March 29, 2005; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Thompson was born February 14, 1938, in Lake Providence, Louisiana; she graduated from Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee, Alabama, with a degree in food technology; and

WHEREAS, She was employed at Cook County Hospital and spent her later years working as a supervisor for Community Care in Oak Park until her retirement; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Thompson was one of the founding members of APPLE, Black/White Dialogue, and the NAACP Oak Park Chapter; she was dedicated to the mission of the organizations and she was relentless in pursuit of solutions; and

WHEREAS, She is survived by her daughter, Mecca, and son, Shaun; she was preceded in death by her husband; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Claudia Washington Thompson and extend our sincerest condolences to her family, friends, and community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to her family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
