SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of John Tonin of Waukegan, on
4 August 31, 2006; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born on July 9, 1921 in Waukegan; he served
6 in the United States Army in the Philippines; he retired from
7 the North Shore Gas Company in 1997 after working there for 57
8 years; and
 
9     WHEREAS, He had a passion for playing 12 inch fast pitch
10 softball, which began in 1936 as the third baseman for West
11 School; he won two Tri-State and two Lake County Tournament
12 Championships with his team; he formed the Waukegan Bombers in
13 the 1950's, playing and managing the team for 10 years; he hung
14 up his glove in 1976, and was inducted into the Waukegan Sports
15 Hall of Fame in 1993; and
 
16     WHEREAS, The passing of John Tonin has been deeply felt by
17 many, especially his sister, Mary Langford; his two foster
18 brothers, Chuck and Bobby Alcorn; his son, Thomas (Daniel)
19 Tonin; his daughter, Barbara (Ken) Albert; his step-daughters,
20 Doralee (Stu) and Sue Moody; his grandchildren, Joseph and
21 Susan Tonin; his step-grandchildren, Lori (Scott) Knesley and
22 Holly (Mark) Speckman, Gary Grogan and Tim Grogan, Tara
23 Cottrell, Natalie Cottrell, and Vanessa Moody; his
24 step-great-grandchildren, Melissa, Andrew, Knesley, Katie, and
25 Kelly Speckman; he was preceded in death by his first wife,
26 Helen (Bukass) Tonin and his second wife Ann Redmond Yore;
27 therefore, be it
 
28     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
29 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
30 John Tonin, and we extend our sincere condolences to his
31 family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
