HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois learned with deep sadness of the death of
4 Howard Franklin Eychaner on Tuesday, November 1, 2005; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Mr. Eychaner was born in Sycamore on August 22,
6 1916, to Perry J. and Ethel B. Eychaner; he was a 1934 graduate
7 of DeKalb High School; and
 
8     WHEREAS, On February 6, 1942, Mr. Eychaner married Mildred
9 Marie Lovett in Winnebago; he was a member of the First United
10 Methodist Church in DeKalb since 1928; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Mr. Eychaner advocated
12 justice and dignity for all people, including women, refugees,
13 and people of all racial and ethnic backgrounds; along with his
14 wife, Mildred, he co-founded the Northern Illinois Chapter of
15 Parents-Friends of Lesbians and Gays (P-FLAG); they worked
16 tirelessly for the full acceptance and inclusion of gays and
17 lesbians into society in general and, in particular, within the
18 United Methodist Church; and
 
19     WHEREAS, In 1995, Northern Illinois University, in honor of
20 the Eychaners' contributions on behalf of lesbian, gay,
21 bisexual, and transgender people, created the Eychaner Award to
22 honor others committed to the same work; in 2002, the couple
23 was honored with the first Pioneer Family Award from the
24 national P-FLAG organization; and
 
25     WHEREAS, Mr. Eychaner he was founding president and board
26 member of the DeKalb Area Retirement Center; in May of 2005,
27 the Oak Crest Health Center was named for the Eychaners; and
 
28     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents,
29 his sister, Doris Ringstrom, and his brother, Donald; and

1     WHEREAS, The passing of Howard Franklin Eychaner has been
2 deeply felt by many, especially his children, Fred, James
3 (Barbara), Rich, and Barbara (Tom) Richardson; his four
4 grandchildren, Anne, Jay, Tim Richardson, and Alana
5 Richardson; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
6     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8 we mourn the passing of Howard Franklin Eychaner, and we extend
9 our deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and all who knew
10 and loved him; and be it further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to his family as an expression of our sincere
13 condolences for their loss.
