HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Aurora Chief of Police William J. Lawler is
3 retiring from his position with the police force and has
4 accepted a position of director for the Suburban Law
5 Enforcement Academy; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Chief Lawler is a 26-year veteran of law
7 enforcement; prior to his career with the Aurora Police
8 Department, he served three years with the Kane County Sheriffs
9 Department; he was appointed as a Police Officer for the City
10 of Aurora on December 11, 1978; and
 
11     WHEREAS, During his career, Chief Lawler has worked in most
12 units and divisions within the department, including Patrol,
13 Crime Prevention, Investigations, Support Services, and Gang
14 Intervention (now the Special Operations Group); he was a
15 member of the department's Special Response Team and the Honor
16 Guard; he served honorably in all ranks within the police
17 department; he was promoted to Sergeant on April 25, 1990; to
18 Lieutenant on July 10, 1993; and to Commander on December 21,
19 1996; and
 
20     WHEREAS, William J. Lawler was appointed as Aurora's first
21 Deputy Chief of Police on January 26, 2000; his appointment as
22 Chief of Police of the Aurora Police Department was effective
23 July 20, 2002; and
 
24     WHEREAS, He is a graduate of West Aurora High School and
25 holds a bachelor's degree in law enforcement administration
26 from Western Illinois University and a master's degree in
27 criminal justice from Aurora University; he lives in Aurora
28 with his wife, Joanne, and daughter, Cathy; therefore, be it
 
29     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
30 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1 we congratulate Chief Lawler on the occasion of his retirement,
2 and we thank him for his many years of devoted service to the
3 protection of the citizens of Aurora; and be it further
 
4     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5 presented to Chief Lawler as an expression of our deepest
6 respect and esteem and with best wishes in all of his future
7 endeavors.
