HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death in Afghanistan of U.S. Navy Lt. Michael M. McGreevy Jr. of Portville, New York, formerly of Mount Olive and Naperville, on June 28, 2005; and

WHEREAS, As a child, Lt. McGreevy lived in Naperville; in ninth grade, he moved to New Jersey with his mother, then to Portville, New York; he spent some of his teenage years in Mount Olive as well; and

WHEREAS, He was a member of the U.S. Navy's SEAL Team 10 based in Virginia Beach, Virginia; he attended the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland, graduating in 1997, second in his class; two years later, he made it through Army Ranger school and the U.S. Navy accepted him into the SEALS, where he graduated first in his class; and

WHEREAS, He is remembered as an outstanding student and athlete at his high school; he was known to protect other students from bullies and watch out for students who did not excel; he always loved a challenge; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Lt. McGreevy has been deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Laura; his daughter, Molly; his mother, Patricia Mackin; and his father, Michael McGreevy; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Lt. Michael M. McGreevy Jr., and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Lt. McGreevy and his willingness to serve his country, which led to him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our sincerest condolences.
