HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Kerry Sheridan was elected Fire Chief of the Troy Township Volunteer Fire Department in 1960 and has diligently served Troy Township for 50 years, 45 years as Fire Chief; and

WHEREAS, In 1955, Troy Township was a beachfront area with summer cottages, farmland, and 800 residents; it now has the Village of Shorewood, many new subdivisions, 18,000 residents, and access to two major interstates, I-55 and I-80; and

WHEREAS, The Fire Department was formed in 1955 and Fire Chief Kerry Sheridan is one of its original members; the Troy Fire Protection District was formed in 1963; and

WHEREAS, The Fire Department started with 40 volunteers and 10 sets of bunker gear; the Fire Protection District now has 50 volunteers and 18 full-time ambulance/firefighters, each having their own set of gear, pager, and airpak; and

WHEREAS, The Town Hall, located on Seil Road, was moved to Jefferson Street and garage doors were added to house the fire department equipment; the Fire Protection District is now located at 107 West Jefferson and has five bays; a second station is being built on Seil Road; and

WHEREAS, In 1973, Chief Sheridan started one of the first fire cadet programs in the State; he also organized an Ambulance Service for recruiting and training new EMTs; the Ambulance Service went into service in May of 1980; he was president of the Des Plaines MABAS 15 Division and is still an active member; and

WHEREAS, The Troy Fire Protection District is one of the best-trained volunteer districts in the State; Chief Sheridan achieved all this while working full-time since 1955 for Illinois Bell Telephone, now AT&T, and having served in other positions of responsibility, including Village Trustee and County Board Representative; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we are proud to have the opportunity to recognize Fire Chief Kerry Sheridan's 50 years of dedicated service; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we express our sincere gratitude and deep appreciation to Fire Chief Kerry Sheridan and extend our best wishes as he continues to serve Troy Township; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Fire Chief Kerry Sheridan as an expression of our esteem.
