HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Carmon DeLeone celebrates his 20th season as Music Director and Conductor of the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra at the Grand Opening Night Concert on November 5, 2005 at The Center for Performing Arts, Governors State University; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra is the largest performing arts organization in the Chicago Southland providing professional orchestral music of beauty and excellence to the region; it draws audiences from Chicago, Indiana, and Michigan, and more than 68 south and southwest suburbs; now in its 28th season, the Illinois Philharmonic integrates artistry, repertoire, education, diversity, and collaborations with its performances; and

WHEREAS, In 1995, Maestro DeLeone was named the Illinois Music Director of the Year by the Illinois Council of Orchestras; under his leadership, the Orchestra has expanded the scope and content of its musical programming and was named Illinois Orchestra of the Year in 1992; and

WHEREAS, He has also been Music Director of the Cincinnati Ballet for 36 years, and this season also marks his 23rd year as Music Director of the Middletown Symphony in Ohio; at New York's Carnegie Hall, he has served as Conductor and Host of the Family Concert Series and, in Europe, has conducted frequent performances with the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra; and

WHEREAS, A talented composer, he has written many original scores for the Ballet; his best known work, the full-length ballet in two acts, Peter Pan, garnered rave reviews at its opening and first revival in Cincinnati and equal praise when it was presented by Ballet West in Salt Lake City, Iowa City, and Anchorage; his other compositions for the Ballet include Frevo, Guernica, With Timbrel and Dance Praise His Name, and Ruth Page's Billy Sunday, which was nationally televised in 1983 with Johnny Bench as host; and

WHEREAS, He is frequently asked to guest conduct other orchestras throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, Puerto Rico, and Europe; he has been featured in performances with orchestras in Dallas, Vancouver, New Orleans, and Pittsburgh among others; in 1991, he made his European debut with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Luxembourg; and

WHEREAS, He earned B.M., B.S., and M.M. degrees from the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music; he served at CCM as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Opera and Music Theatre; during this tenure, he conducted productions of Prince Igor, La Cenerentola, Gianni Schicchi, The Crucible, La Callisto (American Premiere), and The Secret Marriage; he has been presented with the Conservatory's Distinguished Alumni Award; at Indiana University, he conducted the world premiere and nationally televised production of John Eaton's children's opera, The Lion And Androcles; he is also a proud recipient of Cincinnati's most prestigious Post-Corbett Award for excellence in the arts; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Maestro Carmon DeLeone on his 20th season as Music Director and Conductor of the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra and wish him all the best in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Maestro Carmon DeLeone as an expression of our utmost admiration and esteem.
