HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to acknowledge the retirement of Appellate Judge Kent Slater from the Third District Appellate Court; and

WHEREAS, Judge Slater was born in Hampton, Iowa on November 25, 1945; and

WHEREAS, Judge Slater received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois in 1968, his Juris Doctor degree from John Marshall Law School in 1975, and his L.L.M. degree from the University of Virginia Law School in 2001; and

WHEREAS, Judge Slater served as an infantry officer in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971, serving a tour of duty in Vietnam; and

WHEREAS, In 1984 and 1986, Judge Slater was elected to the Illinois House of Representatives, and was named Outstanding Freshman Representative in 1985; while in the House, he served on the Judiciary Committee; and

WHEREAS, Judge Slater was elected a Circuit Judge in the Ninth Judicial Circuit in 1988 and elected Appellate Judge to the Third District Appellate Court in 1990; he is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the Illinois Judges Association; and he is the proud father of Jaclyn; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Appellate Judge Kent Slater on his retirement from the bench and wish him nothing but the best for the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Appellate Judge Kent Slater.
