HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The future of our nation's productivity and
3 competitiveness in the global workplace depends on the success
4 of boys and girls, men and women; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Women have been discriminated against in
6 education, the workplace, and society as a whole; and
 
7     WHEREAS, The American Association of University Women
8 opens doors for women and girls and influences public debate on
9 critical social issues such as education, civil rights, and
10 workplace equity; and
 
11     WHEREAS, The American Association of University Women
12 promotes excellence in academia for women through the
13 improvement of schools, communities, and fields of work for the
14 benefit of all; and
 
15     WHEREAS, The American Association of University Women is
16 one of the oldest existing organizations dedicated to promoting
17 education and equity for women and girls; and
 
18     WHEREAS, The American Association of University Women
19 celebrates its 125th anniversary this year, from its founding
20 on November 28, 1881; and
 
21     WHEREAS, The American Association of University Women of
22 Illinois advances the American Association of University
23 Women's 125-year legacy of leadership on behalf of women and
24 girls; and
 
25     WHEREAS, We are proud that Ruth Sweetser, the current
26 national American Association of University Women President,
27 is a resident of Illinois and we salute Nancy Daughtery, the
28 President of the American Association of University

1 Women-Illinois; therefore, be it
 
2     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
3 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
4 we congratulate the American Association of University Women on
5 the 125th anniversary of their organization; and urge all the
6 citizens of the State of Illinois to recognize the value of
7 education and an equitable society and the laudable work of the
8 American Association of University Women to that end; and be it
9 further
 
10     RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
11 presented to Ruth Sweetser and Nancy Daughtery.
