HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The future of our nation's productivity and competitiveness in the global workplace depends on the success of boys and girls, men and women; and

WHEREAS, Women have been discriminated against in education, the workplace, and society as a whole; and

WHEREAS, The American Association of University Women opens doors for women and girls and influences public debate on critical social issues such as education, civil rights, and workplace equity; and

WHEREAS, The American Association of University Women promotes excellence in academia for women through the improvement of schools, communities, and fields of work for the benefit of all; and

WHEREAS, The American Association of University Women is one of the oldest existing organizations dedicated to promoting education and equity for women and girls; and

WHEREAS, The American Association of University Women celebrates its 125th anniversary this year, from its founding on November 28, 1881; and

WHEREAS, The American Association of University Women of Illinois advances the American Association of University Women's 125-year legacy of leadership on behalf of women and girls; and

WHEREAS, We are proud that Ruth Sweetser, the current national American Association of University Women President, is a resident of Illinois and we salute Nancy Daughtery, the President of the American Association of University Women-Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the American Association of University Women on the 125th anniversary of their organization; and urge all the citizens of the State of Illinois to recognize the value of education and an equitable society and the laudable work of the American Association of University Women to that end; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to Ruth Sweetser and Nancy Daughtery.
