| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
| 3 |
| State of Illinois are pleased to recognize the 20th anniversary |
| 4 |
| of the Champaign County Crime Stoppers; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Since 1986, the Champaign County Crimestoppers |
| 6 |
| have been helping area law enforcement agencies make Champaign |
| 7 |
| County a safer place to live; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Crimestoppers is a tax-exempt, not-for-profit |
| 9 |
| organization dedicated to reducing the amount of crime and the |
| 10 |
| number of unsolved crimes in Champaign County; it was formed to |
| 11 |
| overcome public apathy about getting involved and to eliminate |
| 12 |
| the fear of retaliation from criminal elements; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Cash rewards of up to $1,000 are paid for |
| 14 |
| information which leads to an arrest
or the recovery of stolen |
| 15 |
| property; callers to the TIPS phone line are not required to |
| 16 |
| identify themselves; instead, each caller is given a secret |
| 17 |
| code number which is then used in all subsequent contacts; |
| 18 |
| reward payments are made in a manner designed to preserve the |
| 19 |
| anonymity of the caller; and
|
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, This worthy program has made an impact in |
| 21 |
| Champaign County; since its inception through 2005, 1,160 cases |
| 22 |
| have been solved resulting in 918 arrests; property recovered |
| 23 |
| has totaled $405,903, and narcotics recovery has totaled |
| 24 |
| $686,031, for a total of $1,091,934 recovered as a result of |
| 25 |
| the Champaign County Crimestoppers; therefore, be it
|
| 26 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 27 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 28 |
| we recognize the 20th anniversary of the Champaign County Crime |
| 29 |
| Stoppers, and we applaud the supporters of this valuable |
| 30 |
| program; and be it further
