HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois are pleased to congratulate William E.
4 Kessler on the occasion of his retirement after 34 years of
5 service with Saint Anthony's Health System; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Mr. Kessler began serving as the first lay
7 administrator of St. Anthony's Hospital on January 24, 1972; in
8 that position, he has been responsible for the development of
9 the 243-bed, two-campus institution that provides acute
10 surgical, medical, pediatric, psychiatric, and long term care;
11 it also includes home health care, hospice care, obstetric
12 care, chemical dependency treatment, cancer therapy, diabetes
13 care, and programs in cardiac, stroke rehabilitation, and
14 occupational health, and a wellness center, assisted living,
15 and a medical mall; and
 
16     WHEREAS, As President and CEO of Saint Anthony's Health
17 System, he undertook responsibility for Saint Anthony's Health
18 Center, Saint Anthony's P.H.O., the Good Samaritan Center,
19 Saint Clare's Villa, Community Physicians and Surgeons, and
20 Saint Anthony's Foundation; and
 
21     WHEREAS, Under his leadership, Saint Anthony's Health
22 Center received a prestigious Top 100 Hospital designation in
23 2000, and in 2005, it was the only hospital in the area to
24 receive commendation from the Commission on Cancer of the
25 American College of Surgeons; and
 
26     WHEREAS, He has been the recipient of numerous awards for
27 his service and is active in numerous professional and civic
28 organizations, often serving in a leadership capacity; and
 
29     WHEREAS, Mr. Kessler holds a Bachelor of Science in
30 Commerce and a Master of Hospital Administration from Saint

1 Louis University; he served as a member of the U.S. Army
2 Medical Service Corps from 1968 to 1971 and held the rank of
3 captain; he is married to Patricia W. Kessler and is the father
4 of Tina, Father Bill, John (wife Dawn, son Collin), Tim (wife
5 Rachel, son Andrew), Jenny (husband Chris), Kate, Joe (wife
6 Annie), and Dan; therefore, be it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9 we congratulate Mr. William E. Kessler on the occasion of his
10 retirement, and we wish him well in his future endeavor as a
11 permanent Deaconate for the Roman Catholic Church; and be it
12 further
 
13     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to Mr. Kessler as an expression of our esteem and
15 with best wishes for a relaxing retirement.
