HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Pastor Eugene Roberson is celebrating his twelfth anniversary as pastor of First Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, A native of Tutwiler, Mississippi, he entered into the ministry in 1979; he was later elevated to Deacon, Assistant to the late Pastor Peter Goadeaux, Jr., and was ultimately named Shepherd of First Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church in May of 1994; since that time, the church has experienced tremendous growth, both in numbers and spirituality; and

WHEREAS, Under his leadership, there have been several notable accomplishments at First Corinthian, including the installation of an elevator to assist those with disabilities, the installation of a sound system, the purchase of church vans, and the completion of a $2 million expansion project; and

WHEREAS, Pastor Roberson is a leader, preacher, teacher, mentor, and advisor; his rapport with the young people and African-American males created a new generation of members; current membership is over 1,000 and continuing to rise; and

WHEREAS, He has been the recipient of several awards and honors, including being the first African American in Lake County to open a session of Congress; he was named the Most Influential African American of Lake County; he has been the recipient of resolutions by the House of Representatives, the College of Lake County Harambee Award of Excellence, the National Association of University Women Award, the Angel Drill Team Award, the Key to the City of North Chicago, the Key to the City of Florence, Alabama, and a Community Achievement Award; and

WHEREAS, He is actively involved in his community as a board member of numerous organizations, often serving in a leadership capacity; and

WHEREAS, Pastor Roberson, who retired from teaching in 2002 after 30 years of service, is married to Sister Geraldine Herron Roberson; he is the father of three children, Kristian, LaTonya, and Eugene II, and is the grandfather of six; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Pastor Eugene Roberson on the occasion of his twelfth anniversary as pastor of First Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Pastor Roberson as an expression of our esteem.
